These are exciting times for business. Cloud computing, mobile technology, AI and many other technologies have made digital transformation more achievable. Where once these new technologies were seen as a threat, they are now an opportunity.

We have seen ERP software evolve and adapt to changing business needs and customer demands so much so that it is unrecognisable from 20 or 30 years ago.

So, what are the ERP trends we can expect in 2020? A post onSolutions Review offers ERP insights from six top influencers. Here’s what they had to say.

1. More cloud-based ERP

Cloud-based ERP solutions will increase in popularity next year, driving stronger business results. Cloud-based ERP offers the ability to meet businesses’ data, personalisation and regulatory needs, as well as providing the flexibility and cost efficiency organisations need to compete in a rapidly-evolving market.

2. A seismic shift

The industry will see a seismic shift over the next few years. This is because project teams will need to navigate cloud adoption, shortcomings in flagship systems, and mounting pressure from vendors. What’s more, biases are creeping in as industry players double down on their one-size-fits-all offerings.

3. Rethinking networks

A key trend in ERP is a shift in how people access the information and their needs. We are seeing a multi-cloud environment which can degrade the quality of the experience. As a result, businesses will need to rethink networks and SD-WAN (software defined wide area network) will become a key player.

4. Fit and functionality no longer a key driver

In ERP, 80% fit used to be acceptable, today 100% is more likely thanks to flexible, technology-based solutions. Fit and functionality may no longer drive decisions, but robust functionality and industry-specific features and functions will be a must.

5. Analytics leveraging AI will be a big push

Expect to see more analytics leveraging AI in ERP in 2020. Predictive tools in ERP already make smarter business decisions but with the addition of AI, businesses will be able to use their ERP portfolio in exciting new ways. Predictive analytics with AI will help optimise retail and manufacturing inventory and track supply and demand, robotic automation is set to transform warehouses, and ERP software with analytic and AI capabilities will help create an automated supply chain.

6. Move to next-generation cloud technologies

In 2020, we will see a move to the ‘true’ cloud. Legacy technology is holding too many companies back from achieving their digital transformation goals. More manufacturing, distribution and supply chain companies will move to next-generation cloud technologies as a way to be more responsive and get closer to customers, better responding to their demands.
